Since 1900, we have been providing care and treatment to the pets of local people. Nowadays, we pride ourselves on using modern technology and top quality equipment in order to practice veterinary medicine to the highest possible standard. We provide our own out of hours service covered by our own vets. Outside normal surgery hours, your call will be answered by a recorded message giving you the t

A hutch is not enough…
A Hutch is Not Enough
Rabbits need more than a small hutch to thrive Confining them to tight spaces is cruel and harmful. Here’s why:
Solitary Confinement: Rabbits need space to run, jump, stretch, dig, and forage, as well as a bonded mate for companionship.
Weather Exposure: Small hutches offer little protection from the elements, leaving rabbits vulnerable.
Room to Rear Up: Rabbits must be able to stand on their hind legs without touching the roof to avoid spinal issues.
Minimum Enclosure Size: At least 3m x 2m x 1m high—bigger is always better!

We are used to seeing grass seeds in dog ears but a dead fly is a new one for us 😯
Have you ever observed your cat grooming more frequently during the summer months? You're spot on! For cats, grooming serves as their natural cooling mechanism, akin to sweating in humans. By licking themselves, cats dissipate heat, helping them stay comfortable in warmer weather. Enhance your cat’s summer comfort with regular brushing sessions, which not only aids in temperature regulation but also minimises hairballs as they shed their winter coat.
Did you know that grass seeds can pose a threat to your pets? These tiny seeds can easily get stuck in their paws, ears, and even eyes, leading to infections and discomfort. Here’s what you need to know to keep your furry friends safe during your outdoor adventures this summer. How to Prevent Grass Seed Injuries: 1.Check Regularly: After walks or playtime, inspect your pet's fur, especially between their toes, ears, and underbelly. 2.Groom Often: Regular grooming can help spot and remove any seeds before they cause issues. 3.Protective Gear: Consider using dog boots or other protective gear if you frequently visit areas with lots of tall grass. Signs to Watch Out For: •Limping or excessive licking of paws •Head shaking or scratching at ears •Red, swollen, or squinting eyes If you suspect a grass seed injury, don’t hesitate to bring your pet in for a check-up. Early removal is crucial to prevent complications.
Ichabod came in with a poorly leg but was still very happy to relax on the shelf.😻

Why is it important to check your pets nails? Ever had a stone in your shoe or a thorn in your sock? Now imagine walking with over 1cm of nail growing into your foot day after day?
We removed this nail from an elderly, arthritic cat that showed no obvious signs that there was a problem. Cats often have difficulty, as they get older, keeping their nails in tip top condition. This can often be because they are less mobile and less able to retract them.
Hopefully this cat will feel alot more comfortable now🤞❤️ and you can book an appointment with one of our nurses to have your pets nails checked.
Summer brings sunny days and outdoor adventures for our feline friends! While your cat enjoys lounging in the garden, it's essential to provide a safe and enjoyable environment. Here are some tips: Check for Shade: Ensure your garden has shaded areas where your cat can retreat from the sun's heat. Consider planting trees or installing umbrellas or awnings to create cool spots. Safe Plants: Be mindful of the plants in your garden, as some can be toxic to cats if ingested. Water Source: Place a shallow water bowl or fountain in the garden to keep your cat hydrated during outdoor excursions. Fence Security: If your garden is enclosed by a fence, regularly inspect it for any gaps or loose areas where your cat could escape. Ensure the fence is cat-proof to prevent accidental escapes. Supervised Play: While your cat may enjoy exploring the garden independently, always supervise outdoor time to ensure their safety. Keep an eye out for potential hazards and intervene if necessary. With these tips, you can create a cat-friendly garden where your furry friend can enjoy the summer sunshine safely! #
Fire up the grill responsibly! Keep your furry friends safe during BBQ season with these petfriendly tips. Secure the Grill: Keep your pets away from hot surfaces to prevent burns. Watch the Food: Avoid sharing BBQ scraps with your pets as some ingredients can be harmful Clean Up Carefully: Dispose of food waste and trash properly to prevent accidental ingestion Provide Shade and Water: Ensure your pets have a cool, shaded spot and access to fresh water at all times. Monitor the Heat: Watch for signs of overheating in your pets and take breaks from the sun as needed. Grill responsibly and keep your pets safe and happy this BBQ season!

⚠️ Remember: Wet then Vet. 🌊🏥👇
Quickly wet the dog with cool water around 15 degrees (not freezing cold). If not available, any water that is cooler than the dog’s skin feels.
Cool water, around 15°C, is ideal, but any water will help. If you only have soft drinks, ensure they don't contain xylitol, and avoid pouring them on the dog's head. Wetting the dog will promote cooling through evaporation. Do this before taking them to the vet but don't spend too much time on it.
Afterward, contact the vet and inform them about the situation and how long it will take you to arrive. This allows the vet's team to prepare for your dog's arrival and increases their chances of receiving prompt treatment.
Avoid using wet towels on the dog as they can trap heat. However, specialised cooling vests that function through evaporation are suitable.
HOW TO SPOT HEAT EXPOSURE 👇
Panting in hot weather is normal, but there are five symptoms you should never ignore if your pet has been exposed to the heat. Contact us immediately if your pet shows any of the symptoms shown in the graphic.
*Please be aware that A mild form of these symptoms can be normal after exercise. If you’re unsure, please contact us for advice.
Stay safe and enjoy the weather ❤
It's not unusual for cats to eat grass but sometimes it can go 'up' the wrong way.

As temperatures rise, so does the risk of flystrike for our fluffy companions. Flystrike, a potentially fatal condition, occurs when flies lay eggs on a rabbit's fur, which then hatch into maggots and feed on their flesh. Keep a close eye on your rabbit's hygiene and living environment, especially during warmer months. Regularly check for any signs of soiled fur, wounds, or unusual behaviour. Prevention is key: ensure your rabbit's living space is clean and dry, and consider using flystrike prevention methods recommended by your vet. If you suspect flystrike, seek veterinary assistance immediately. Early detection and treatment are crucial for the well-being of your furry friend. Let's keep our rabbits safe and flystrike-free this summer!

Antibiotic resistance is a global health issue, and we need your help to keep antibiotics working. That is why Quarry Veterinary Group is taking part in the Antibiotic Amnesty 2023 which is returning again for a second year! Throughout November 2023 we are asking pet owners to return any unused or leftover antibiotic medications to us for safe disposal. Please drop off any unused medications to us. You can hand them in to a vet, nurse or the reception team. This medication might be left-over from a recent prescription, antibiotics that you didn’t need or out-of-date medication. Let’s keep antibiotics working, together! #AntibioticAmnesty
Bear's owner rushed him in to us recently, as he had just stolen and eaten some Iboprofen tablets. Ibuprofen can be very harmful to dogs and cats, causing anything from gut problems to internal organ failure. Bear is lucky he only had 2 tablets, and that his owner brought him down so quickly. We still had to make him sick, but that didn't put him off some tasty food with protective medication in shortly after 😊😋
Some of the free rangers at Shropshire Cat Rescue know if they hang around on vet visit day they might get some lick-e-licks 😻
