A hutch is not enough…

A Hutch is Not Enough

Rabbits need more than a small hutch to thrive Confining them to tight spaces is cruel and harmful. Here’s why:

Solitary Confinement: Rabbits need space to run, jump, stretch, dig, and forage, as well as a bonded mate for companionship.

Weather Exposure: Small hutches offer little protection from the elements, leaving rabbits vulnerable.

Room to Rear Up: Rabbits must be able to stand on their hind legs without touching the roof to avoid spinal issues.

Minimum Enclosure Size: At least 3m x 2m x 1m high—bigger is always better!

Have you ever observed your cat grooming more frequently during the summer months? You're spot on! For cats, grooming serves as their natural cooling mechanism, akin to sweating in humans. By licking themselves, cats dissipate heat, helping them stay comfortable in warmer weather. Enhance your cat’s summer comfort with regular brushing sessions, which not only aids in temperature regulation but also minimises hairballs as they shed their winter coat.

Did you know that grass seeds can pose a threat to your pets? These tiny seeds can easily get stuck in their paws, ears, and even eyes, leading to infections and discomfort. Here’s what you need to know to keep your furry friends safe during your outdoor adventures this summer. How to Prevent Grass Seed Injuries: 1.Check Regularly: After walks or playtime, inspect your pet's fur, especially between their toes, ears, and underbelly. 2.Groom Often: Regular grooming can help spot and remove any seeds before they cause issues. 3.Protective Gear: Consider using dog boots or other protective gear if you frequently visit areas with lots of tall grass. Signs to Watch Out For: •Limping or excessive licking of paws •Head shaking or scratching at ears •Red, swollen, or squinting eyes If you suspect a grass seed injury, don’t hesitate to bring your pet in for a check-up. Early removal is crucial to prevent complications.

Why is it important to check your pets nails? Ever had a stone in your shoe or a thorn in your sock? Now imagine walking with over 1cm of nail growing into your foot day after day?

We removed this nail from an elderly, arthritic cat that showed no obvious signs that there was a problem. Cats often have difficulty, as they get older, keeping their nails in tip top condition. This can often be because they are less mobile and less able to retract them.

Hopefully this cat will feel alot more comfortable now🤞❤️ and you can book an appointment with one of our nurses to have your pets nails checked.

Summer brings sunny days and outdoor adventures for our feline friends! While your cat enjoys lounging in the garden, it's essential to provide a safe and enjoyable environment. Here are some tips: Check for Shade: Ensure your garden has shaded areas where your cat can retreat from the sun's heat. Consider planting trees or installing umbrellas or awnings to create cool spots. Safe Plants: Be mindful of the plants in your garden, as some can be toxic to cats if ingested. Water Source: Place a shallow water bowl or fountain in the garden to keep your cat hydrated during outdoor excursions. Fence Security: If your garden is enclosed by a fence, regularly inspect it for any gaps or loose areas where your cat could escape. Ensure the fence is cat-proof to prevent accidental escapes. Supervised Play: While your cat may enjoy exploring the garden independently, always supervise outdoor time to ensure their safety. Keep an eye out for potential hazards and intervene if necessary. With these tips, you can create a cat-friendly garden where your furry friend can enjoy the summer sunshine safely! #

⚠️ Remember: Wet then Vet. 🌊🏥👇
Quickly wet the dog with cool water around 15 degrees (not freezing cold). If not available, any water that is cooler than the dog’s skin feels.
Cool water, around 15°C, is ideal, but any water will help. If you only have soft drinks, ensure they don't contain xylitol, and avoid pouring them on the dog's head. Wetting the dog will promote cooling through evaporation. Do this before taking them to the vet but don't spend too much time on it.
Afterward, contact the vet and inform them about the situation and how long it will take you to arrive. This allows the vet's team to prepare for your dog's arrival and increases their chances of receiving prompt treatment.
Avoid using wet towels on the dog as they can trap heat. However, specialised cooling vests that function through evaporation are suitable.

22/06/2024

As temperatures rise, so does the risk of flystrike for our fluffy companions. Flystrike, a potentially fatal condition, occurs when flies lay eggs on a rabbit's fur, which then hatch into maggots and feed on their flesh. Keep a close eye on your rabbit's hygiene and living environment, especially during warmer months. Regularly check for any signs of soiled fur, wounds, or unusual behaviour. Prevention is key: ensure your rabbit's living space is clean and dry, and consider using flystrike prevention methods recommended by your vet. If you suspect flystrike, seek veterinary assistance immediately. Early detection and treatment are crucial for the well-being of your furry friend. Let's keep our rabbits safe and flystrike-free this summer!
