You may never have seen behind the consultation room in a veterinary practice.

So take a look at the work our vets and nurses do on the front line every day to look after animals in veterinary practices, hospitals, in the field and on call - so that they receive the best possible care.

Thanks to Molly Case for the poem you have written about our profession.

We appreciate all our lovely receptionists ❤️

So you fancy being a Veterinary Receptionist?

Understandable, working in a vet practice is pretty cool but can you...

Answer a phone......while two other lines are ringing and several clients are waiting at the desk to be booked in, to pick up medicines and to pay for their treatment

Take a call about a sick pet......calm down a hysterical owner, ascertain the relevant details, find and speak to a vet or nurse in the clinic, remember their advice, relay that to the owner and then book them in for an emergency appointment (also while the waiting room is still full)

Cuddle a cute puppy...... when just a few minutes before you were offering tissues and sympathy to a family who had lost a beloved companion.

Make a cup of tea...... for a distraught colleague who has just dealt with a really traumatic situation, comfort them and then help and support them to face the rest of their day

And that is just for starters!

Veterinary Receptionists are the beating heart of a veterinary clinic. They are the people who you will first speak to on the phone, who will greet you at the desk, who plan our days and keep the show on the road.

They will welcome your new cute addition to the family and be the sympathetic and kind presence you need when you face that final day with your companion.

Today is Veterinary Receptionist Appreciation Day! And oh my goodness, do we appreciate them!!!

Thank you VERY much for all you do for all of us!

👩‍⚕️🩺Rebecca who is one of our amazing Registered Veterinary Nurses has recently been promoted to a Senior Veterinary Nurse position. 👏🥳

For the last 4 years, Rebecca has been based at Harrier Vets in Hamble. Since becoming Clinical Supervisor to our Student Veterinary Nurse Gaella, she has been sharing her time between both Harrier Vets and Brook House Vet Centre in order to fulfill her mentoring role. 📚👩‍🏫🎓

Rebecca is also our Mental Health Champion and helps look after the wellbeing of our whole team. 😌

Rebecca first began her nursing journey in the summer of 1990 starting out a mixed animal practice in Harlow, Essex and later qualifying as an RVN in 1992.
Following a break to raise a family she was delighted to return to her first love, veterinary nursing.

She is passionate about high standards of care for all patients and a firm believer in treating them as if they were her own.🐕🐈🐇🐕‍🦺🐈‍⬛🐹

Rebecca is happy to admit that she is under the paw of her gorgeous (albeit naughty) Border Terriers.

A well deserved and many congratulations Rebecca!🥳💚

We’re super proud to support their career development as they progress from experienced Patient Care Assistants to future RVNs. 💚🩺

Please help us to wish them good luck on their journey. 🤗

‼️ IMPORTANT ‼️

Please be aware that we are currently experiencing a delay from our main supplier meaning some drug requests may be taking longer than usual. Our advice is to please allow at least 72 hours for a request to go through and to call or email the surgery to check if your medication is ready before you head to us. We appreciate your patience during this time and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Best wishes from the Team. 🩺💚

Today is a bittersweet day for everyone at Southampton Hub. It is a last day for our Senior Nurse Tracy,😢 as she is moving to be a Head Nurse somewhere else.💪👍 We feel very proud of what she achieved 👏but sad losing her.😢
Tracy qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2007. 👩🏻‍⚕️ 🐈 🐕 🐇 🐹
She joined the team at Brook House Veterinary Centre in 2017.
The last year, Tracy was Clinical Supervisor to two of our students, still working as a nurse and being an amazing support to our Head Nurse Kat.
We gonna miss your dad jokes🤣 and stories about your kittens. 🐈‍⬛️ 🐈‍⬛️
Well done Tracy 👏🥳 and thank you for everything!❤️🫶

Just a reminder...enjoy the sun but remember to stay safe.

Be on heatstroke watch!
Dogs are at risk of overheating if walked in the heat of the day.

Signs of heatstroke...

🔴Excessive panting or drooling

🔴Racing heart

🔴Lethargic, drowsy and uncoordinated

🔴Vomiting

🔴Acute collapse.

❌Do not leave your dog in the car alone for any length of time in the heat!

✅Provide cool, ventilated and shaded areas

✅Keep their water bowls topped up

✅Make them tasty ice cube treats or a frozen kong

✅If you have to travel in the car with your dog, make sure they have access to water.

Let us know in the comments how you manage to keep your pets cool! 💦
