“Everyone is doing extremely well this Sunday! Although it is only the second class of the course, this four-month-old white German Shepherd puppy, Rambo, is progressing very quickly and confidently. Raksha, the five-month-old American Bulldog, is starting to come out of her shell nicely.
Achilles, the XL Bully, and Ludacris, the Micro Bully, are learning more social skills and mingling with everyone else with less and less antisocial behaviour. But don't be fooled, Peaches, the golden Cocker Spaniel all the way from South Africa, is still having some fear issues with some dogs but is also doing great for her age with her owner, who is a great handler. Well done, everyone! Keep up the good work and see you all next Sunday! Class 3 will bring on the pressure!” The Dawg Man 🐾

𝗤 + 𝗔 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 | We were up close and personal with these guys and their Rome who completed both the basic and advanced dog obedience courses earlier this year.
Korynn hails from Boston, USA, and moved to Auckland, NZ, to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian. She now practices at Remuera Vets and occasionally at VSA Emergency. Outside of work, Korynn enjoys staying active with her dog, doing Pilates, and cooking delicious meals. 🌟🐾

Michael lives in Auckland and works full-time as a football coach. He loves being active with his dog and partner and still enjoys playing football for the Eastern Suburbs team. ⚽🐶

KEEPING YOU UPDATED ON LATEST RESEARCH

Researchers at the University of California, Davis, have updated their guidelines on when to neuter 40 popular dog varieties by breed and s*x. Their recent paper in Frontiers in Veterinary Science adds five breeds to a line of research that began in 2013 with a study that suggested that early neutering of golden retrievers puts them at increased risk of joint diseases and certain cancers.

A new study provides updated guidelines to decrease risk of certain cancers and joint disorders.

THE DOGMAN PUPPY TIP - MEET OLLIE - Saturday lovin with this cute American Bulldog puppy. The Dogman went out to visit this little guy who is highly motivated with his owner, but tends to use his mouth to bite everything as all puppies do! ☑️🐶To address this behaviour, we need to interact with our puppies and build a strong bond through play. Playing tug-of-war with toys allows them to learn how to use their natural instincts appropriately. When teaching a puppy how to bite gently, it’s important not to use oneself as a biting toy. Instead, use a toy as a target for a special reward. This way, the puppy learns that interaction with you is positive and playful. This playful learning fosters focus on you and prevents over-suppression of their instincts.

Striding into the weekend… and we’re looking forward to or basic obedience class tomorrow!
Our basic obedience training, held rain or shine, focuses on establishing a strong bond between the handler and the dog. The course covers foundational commands like sit, stay, heel, and recall in a distraction-rich environment. Post-session, handlers receive homework to practice daily routines for about 10 minutes, followed by playtime with their dog. .

NEK9 Training. We all really enjoy having you, and now your daughter Shannon, with her special needs furry buddy. You mean a lot to us! 🙏 As you have pointed out, your experience with us in the past 10+ years is very important. I believe it's crucial to handle all dogs of shapes and sizes the same way: with confidence and consistency. The most important aspect of dog ownership or handling is to be a leader first and foremost. While we have domesticated dogs, we must not overstep boundaries to be dominant and unfair. We must achieve a perfect balance to have the best relationship with our K9s, built on trust, control, and respect. The energy you project is what you get back from your K9 partner. Every action must have a reaction. If the response is wrong, your actions are at fault.
We need to keep our relationship growing to give our dogs purpose and keep developing with them. As a wise man once told me ☝️"there is always room for improvement." Do right by your K9 partners; we only have them for a short time in our lives, but we are their whole life to them.

Caught in the act, Roma loves to dig, (actually it’s a natural behaviour in dogs) so when you ask yourself how do I stop my dog from digging at home, you have to ask what is causing thus; boredom, lack of stimulation/exercise or has it become an embedded behaviour through repetition that needs to be corrected and redirected elsewhere? ✅Here is a solution for you and a great outlet for your pup. “Another fantastic 6-week course has graduated with flying colors! Some of the reactive dogs have gained confidence and respect, and all the handlers have become more experienced and learned about leadership over the past 6 weeks. I thank you all for your loyalty and commitment. Remember, the key to success is consistency and follow-through. The journey is just beginning for you all as we move into the Advanced course, where we’ll be teaching more confidence and Obstacle training for you and your K9. She’s one cute pup who doesn’t need Musashi! That’s just to give you an idea how tiny she is! Although we intend to love our dogs, particularly the little ones, it’s hard to stay consistent with them because they’re so cute. But we HAVE TO!

🐾 Meet little Arsene 2, who just turned 6 months! 🎉 She’s completed her third training boot camp weekend with me and is a shining example of how well little breeds can be trained and maintain their learning. 🐶💡 Arsene 2 is well-rounded, stable with people and other dogs, and can now do a 45-minute down stay at obstacle class with other dogs around, still on leash. 🏅 Consistency is key in building a strong foundation in all aspects of environment and social skills development, fostering Trust, Respect, and Control in your K9’s relationship. 🌟 Remember to stay patient, be consistent, and keep it simple. 🐕‍🦺 The more you practice and utilize commands and basic obedience, the more stable and balanced your furry friend will be! 🌈 Have a great week, lots of fun, and take care of yourselves and each other! - THA DAWG MAN.
