Maybe you have an affectionate pup that shows you love by pressing its head against yours while you smother it with smooches, and that’s cute as heck. But if your dog is pressing its head against the wall, it’s showing you something is wrong.
Dog head pressing is the obsessive act of pressing the head against a wall, corner, floor, or other firm, stationary object. The why is somewhat of a controversy. It could be related to a feeling of discomfort or pain, or it could be related to altered awareness, causing a dog to walk into the wall and not be able to navigate away from it.
Unfortunately, what we do know is that head pressing in dogs almost always indicates serious illness. It is generally a sign of forebrain dysfunction, and some other common signs are: Walking in circles, seizures, ataxia (incoordination), blindness.
Please visit your Vet if your dog (or cat) is displaying any of these signs 🙏

After an incident at Rangiora Mitre10 today, a reminder - Don’t leave your dog in the car on a hot day. They heat up VERY QUICKLY to unbearable temperatures!!

If you see a dog left alone in a hot car, take down the car’s color, model, make, and license plate number. Have the owner paged in the nearest buildings, or call local SPCA or ANIMAL CONTROL. If the dog needs URGENT assistance call the POLICE. Have someone keep an eye on the dog and don’t leave the scene until the situation has been resolved.

Note: Often the dog will lie down on the floor to the lowest part of the car in an effort to get cool (making them hard to spot if in trouble).
