Heading into the 4th of July? Don’t forget about your pets! 🐾
Tomorrow’s all about celebration, but today’s the perfect time to prep for a safe and stress-free holiday—for both you and your furry family members.

Before the BBQs and fireworks begin, here’s your quick pre-holiday checklist from all of us at Community Care Veterinary Specialists:

✅ Create a quiet, comfy space for your pet inside—fireworks can be loud and scary
✅ Double-check ID tags & microchip info in case of any unexpected dashes
✅ Pick up anxiety meds or calming aids from your Primary Veterinarian, if your pet gets nervous
✅ Ensure all outside activities are done before the fireworks begin
✅ Keep human treats away from curious noses—BBQ bones, chocolate, and onions are no-gos
✅ Plan for after-hours care—CCVS Meadowbrook will be open from 7am-12am if you need us!

We’ll be celebrating too—but our priority is always your pet’s safety and comfort. 🐶🐱❤️ 📸 Don’t forget to tag us in your 4th of July pet pics—we’d love to see them in their red, white & blue!

Two years ago, we opened the doors of Community Care Veterinary Specialists – Meadowbrook, and what a journey it’s been! 🐾

In just 24 months, we've:
✨ Expanded our emergency hours to 7am to Midnight to better serve your pets when they need us most
🩺 Welcomed a new surgeon and several incredible ER veterinarians
🔬 Broadened our procedural offerings to deliver even more advanced care, including Echocardiograms & Ultrasounds, Fracture Repairs, Arthroscopy, as well as expanded our Oncology service with walk-in options on Wednesday
👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ Grown our amazing support staff to meet the needs of our growing hospital and their drive to expand their knowledge

Most importantly, we've had the honor of supporting and serving the wonderful Gainesville and North Central Florida community—and your beloved pets—every step of the way. 💙🐶🐱🐾

🚨 Update on Walk-In Oncology Wednesdays! 🐾💙

We're so grateful for the amazing response to our Walk-In Oncology Consultations with Dr. Stacey Fox-Alvarez, DACVIM (Oncology)! Thanks to you, this service is helping more pets get timely, compassionate cancer care—right when they need it most.

Please note: Walk-In Oncology will not be available on the following Wednesdays:

*Tomorrow* June 4

August 27

November 26

December 31

Walk-ins will still be available on all other Wednesdays, including Christmas Eve (Dec. 24)!

If your pet needs urgent care on a day when oncology walk-ins are unavailable, our Emergency Service remains open from 7am until 12am and can help coordinate follow-up care with Dr. Fox-Alvarez.

Today, we honor the resilient, loyal, tail-wagging companions who found their second chance—and the incredible humans who made it possible.

Rescue dogs may come from tough beginnings, but their hearts are full of love, gratitude, and boundless joy. Whether they're goofy, shy, cuddly, or bold, each rescue pup brings a special kind of magic into our lives. ✨🐶

To the adopters, fosters, shelter workers, and volunteers: thank you for believing in second chances and for giving these pups the love and care they deserve. You've changed lives—four paws at a time.

🦠🐾 May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month 🐾🦠

Did you know?
🌿 Ticks are active year-round in Florida, but their peak season typically runs from April to September.
🐶 Prevention is the best protection—both for you and your pets.

This month is a vital reminder to stay vigilant and informed. Here’s how you can help protect your furry family members:
✔️ Use vet-recommended tick preventatives year-round
✔️ Check your pets regularly after outdoor activities (see image)
✔️ Wear protective clothing and use animal friendly tick repellents in wooded or grassy areas
✔️ Learn the signs of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses

Early detection and prevention make all the difference. If you have questions about tick prevention or suspect a tick-borne illness, partner with your primary veterinarian! They will have the knowledge of your furry friends life-style and the best products on the market to keep you safe.

Lyme disease can cause a variety of symptoms in our furry friends - from limping/joint stiffness, to lack of appetite, to vomiting and diarrhea. If you have any concerns with how your friends buddy is behaving, our entire staff is here to help.
