🦃 Thanksgiving is almost here!
As we gear up for a holiday filled with good food, family time, and maybe a few too many leftovers, don’t forget to keep an eye on what’s within reach of your furry family members!

We know our pets love to “help” in the kitchen…but some holiday treats can cause more trouble than joy. 🍗🚫
The graphic below (thank you ASPCA!) highlights common Thanksgiving foods that can be dangerous for dogs and cats — including chocolate, xylitol, grapes, turkey bones, raw dough, and more.

Enjoy the holiday safely with these quick tips:
• Keep tempting dishes pushed back from counter edges.
• Keep pets away from the grill and deep fryer
• Remind guests not to slip pets table scraps (no matter how cute their faces are).
• Secure trash cans — pets see them as treasure chests!
• When in doubt, stick to pet-safe treats only. 🦴

Our Emergency Service will be open every day this week from 7am to 12am.

As we prepare for the upcoming holiday, we wanted to remind you that our Walk-In Oncology Service will be taking a little holiday break tomorrow, November 26th, as our team prepares for turkey time, extra pet snuggles, and all the Thanksgiving goodies! 🦃

We’ll be back to our regular walk-in schedule on Wednesday, December 3rd, ready to care for your beloved companions. 🐾

If your pet needs urgent oncology support during this time, please don’t hesitate to call us—our Emergency service will remain open from 7am until 12am and we’re always here to guide you. 💙

🌟 Attention Gainesville pet owners! 🐾 At Community Care Veterinary Specialists- Meadowbrook location, we understand that your fur babies deserve the very best, when you need it the most, so our ER/Critical Care department is open 365 days a year for pet emergencies! You never know....you may get to see Dr. Bassett or Dr. DeMent (pictured here).

🟨 Our Boarded Medical Oncologist, Dr. Fox, and her technical staff continues the weekly 'Walk-In Wednesdays' for appointments falling into the 'oncology' category. Clients are responding positively to this kind of access to care!

🟦 Our doctors in the surgery department at both locations continue to treat pets for anything from CCL injuries to foreign body removals, to mast cell tumors. We are also seeing more pets with Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome (BOAS)--often experienced by breeds with the 'smooshed faces'. Dr. Alvarez *loves* to help a pet breathe better. 🌟 Meet Our New ER Veterinarian! 🌟

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Caroline DeMent to our Meadowbrook Emergency & Critical Care team! 🐾

Dr. DeMent grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, and she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the College of William & Mary before going on to complete her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia. Prior to veterinary school, she worked as a veterinary technician—giving her a unique perspective on patient care and client communication.

Her special interests include supporting families through emergencies, strengthening communication with pet owners, and finding ways to reduce stress and improve comfort for patients during ER visits. ❤️

Outside of the hospital, you can find Dr. DeMent reading with her two cats, gardening, cooking, spending time with family, or exploring Florida’s incredible state parks. 🌿
