🌟 Meet Our New ER Veterinarian! 🌟

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Caroline DeMent to our Meadowbrook Emergency & Critical Care team! 🐾

Dr. DeMent grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, and she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the College of William & Mary before going on to complete her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia. Prior to veterinary school, she worked as a veterinary technician—giving her a unique perspective on patient care and client communication.

Her special interests include supporting families through emergencies, strengthening communication with pet owners, and finding ways to reduce stress and improve comfort for patients during ER visits. ❤️

Outside of the hospital, you can find Dr. DeMent reading with her two cats, gardening, cooking, spending time with family, or exploring Florida’s incredible state parks. 🌿

Please join us in giving Dr. DeMent a warm welcome to Meadowbrook—we are excited for the skill, compassion, and dedication she brings to our community!

Friendly reminder, Walk-In Oncology will not be available TOMORROW Wednesday, August 27th. It will resume next week on September 3rd.

If your pet does need urgent care when oncology walk-ins are unavailable, our Emergency Service remains open from 7am until 12am and can help coordinate follow-up care with Dr. Fox-Alvarez.

☀️ Heat Stroke in Pets: What to Watch For & How to Prevent It

With the summer heat in full swing, it's important to remember that our furry companions are especially vulnerable to high temperatures. Heat stroke can be life-threatening—and it can happen fast.

🚨 Signs of heat stroke in pets may include:
🐶 Excessive panting or drooling
🐱 Lethargy or weakness
🔥 Bright red gums or tongue
💨 Rapid heartbeat
🚫 Vomiting or diarrhea
💥 Collapse or confusion

To help keep your pets safe in the heat, avoid these high-risk activities:
🚫 Midday walks on hot pavement
🚫 Leaving pets in parked cars (even with windows cracked)
🚫 Intense play or exercise in the sun

✅ Instead, try these safer alternatives:
🌅 Early morning or late evening walks
💧 Provide constant access to fresh, cool water
🌳 Create shady resting spots or stay indoors with A/C

Even the most energetic pets need to slow down in the heat. If you suspect your pet may be overheating, contact us immediately—every minute matters.

At CCVS, we go through a lot of soft bedding to keep our patients cozy, calm, and clean during their stay. Gently used towels, sheets, and blankets help us provide that extra comfort—especially for pets recovering from surgery or receiving emergency care.
