Back when i was younger , and worked younger horses……the ones that like to go fast with no soeed throttle were expected to help ride the wet arena dry. Comment if you know. Everyone at Capricorn pre 2000 remembers riding the arena dry. Man we got some horses worked out of taking off. We rode no matter what.
Glad i have covered pen now. None of my guys now need this training

For over 40yrs Capricorn has been a leader in starting riders. Before all the
“Natural” “Down Under” “Liberty”
or Clinician of the current “trend”
——-We put people on horses….X,000’s
of students. Don’t get caught learning the specics of talented people. Pay attention to the experience of those whose are forming your perception of riding. Tom Brady can’t teach you to QB like him. Even with as much potential, you’ll first have to think and understand like a pro to be a pro. That takes time.

A missed consideration with most lesson programs is that they center on the skills and/or interest of the person teaching rather than basic foundational skills. It’s easiest to keep students if the horses are easy to ride despite the riders skill. That’s not a recipe for safety and it only takes one incident to end most people’s dreams of riding.
Don’t get wrapped up in what your “trainer” can do on a horse they trained. In the end,
they aren’t going to train every horse you ride. Ride where skill development is emphasized over natural ability. Nature will age you out of abilities that only skill will preserve. Everyone rode when they were young and able, but only the skilled will ride past their youth.

THE MORE YOU KNOW.

Olfaction is a key element of a horses survival. Smelling helps them to instantly recognize and adapt to chemicals, foul or offensive odors, and hormones or adrenal response. In layman’s terms. They can smell what’s up with you. Horses are obligate nose breathers, which simply means
THE HAVE TO breath through their nose. Team that fact with the fact that they have 60x’s the olfactory receptors of a human and you have an ultra sensitive “mood” detector. You have to learn to truly control your emotions and actions to the point of being perpetually neutral around horses…..or pay the consequences. You can’t act
“Not Mad” “Not Nervous” “Not Frustrated”
You have to be what the horse needs you to be. Chemically Neutral.
