It is nesting season for birds. Wildlife rehabilitation centres treat hundreds of birds that good Samaritans believe are orphans, but are healthy and still with their parents. Even the best of intentions, could cause more harm than good.
Knowing what to look for when you see a baby bird is key to deciding whether you need to help.
Fledglings are often clumsy and can appear unable to fly or hurt. Unless they are in immediate danger from predation or traffic, it’s best to leave them alone. If you have fledglings in your yard, please keep them safe by keep dogs and cats away.

From March through July, our feathered friends are busy caring for their young and it’s important for us to help keep them safe.

For many, preparation for Spring Break travel plans are already underway. ✈️ If you are travelling and leaving your pet in someone else's care, it is a good idea to fill our Absent Owner form as well as making sure your pet has up to date identification tags in the event they are separated from their caregiver.

A completed form helps us understand who is making the medical decisions for your pet, any pertinent medical history or medications as well as the name of your family veterinarian.

In the event your pet needs emergency veterinary care while you are away, we suggest you complete our Absent Owner form.

It seems that Spring has sprung here on the west coast. For the safety of your pets, remember many fertilizers, insecticides and herbicides that keep our plants and lawns healthy and green may be dangerous for your pets. Always store these products safely out of pets reach and follow label instructions carefully.
When planning your garden, it is a good idea to research what plants are safe for your pets. Check out this great list of toxic and non-toxic plants.

Our staff was recently offered the opportunity to have pet pictures taken with Santa, thanks to Kevin and Tammy, the owners of Camp Beer Co. Their dog Brew was a blood donor at AECFV before he passed away. 💞 Kevin agreed to don the Santa suit so our staff could get some great keepsakes of their pets. (he was a great Santa!)❤️
The pictures were by donation and all proceeds are being sent to Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) in honor of their dog Brew. We raised almost $400!
We wish Kevin and Tammy at Camp Beer Co. a wonderful Christmas holiday. We will be thinking of Brew and all the dogs he helped save while in our blood donor program.
