Adorable moment with Murka and Vet Alex yesterday!๐
.
Lovely little Murka enjoying a peaceful recovery after her sedate and X-ray to investigate vomiting and inappetence.
.
Recovery is one of the most important moment to keep your pets calm, feeling safe and LOTS of attention and cuddles from the team is essential!
This lovely girl is Luna!
The wee girl can be a bit of a monkey at times, however recently sheโs been amazing with the help of her owners and Kristi our senior consulting nurse.
Believe it or not we sometimes have to muzzle Luna as she likes to have a nip at us when clipping her nails or doing her anal glands.
She is a rescue and has been very nervous in the vets for years but weโve made huge breakthroughs recently! We did Lunas anal glands without a muzzle today and with the help of some tasty GI food on a licky mat we didnโt even hear a growl โค๏ธ
Positive reinforcement is a huge part of our nursing appointments and we want to make every patient as comfortable as we can. Working with clients and their pets is at the forefront of our appointments and you can see the reward here!
We will keep you updated on Lunas progress at next months appointment.
Happy New Year!!๐

We have had a fantastic 2023 full of new and exciting adventures! We cannot wait to see what 2024 has in store for us! We look forward to seeing faces new and old in the new year!

This is Freddie who came in to have his nose scoped after having nasal discharge.
.
Look at him post general anaesthetic, very happy to see our lovely faces! Freddie was looked after by Vet Hazel and RVN's Bethan, Leanda and Senior Nurse Jenny ๐
Our inpatient nurses were keeping a close eye on Bryn the other night!
.
Poor boy was in with us after ingesting chocolate; luckily we got it all out and he was happy with his kong toy filled with yummy gastrointestinal food to help settle his tummy โค๏ธ
Thereโs nothing better than an ear rub!
Gorgeous Ivy was enjoying a lot of fuss from Nurse Lyndsey today - here she is coming round from her anaesthetic after her keyhole ovariectomy and gastropexy ๐ฅฐ
She was a star patient and is recovering nicely at home!
The prophylactic gastropexy will help to prevent the potentially fatal condition GDV (bloat). Itโs an option for any deep chested breed, and can be done with our keyhole equipment to make the surgery minimally invasive.
If youโd like to find out more send us a message and one of our vets will give you a call.

Do you protect your pets from lungworm? As part of our pet health club we make sure your pet is covered. to find out more call your nearest branch or visit https://www.icrvets.com/pet-health-club #icrvets #lungworm #pethealthclub
Protect your pet against this serious infection. Puppies can be vaccinated against canine parvovirus from around six weeks old. As well as protecting your dog or puppy against this nasty and potentially serious disease, regular vaccination is required by kennels and pet insurers as a condition of cover. To find out more call your nearest branch or visit our website https://www.icrvets.com/
Parvovirus is vaccinated against every 3 years in adult dogs. Leptospirosis must be vaccinated against every year. At the third year vaccine, you can choose whether to re vaccinate (perfectly safe to do so) or titre test to check whether immunity has waned in your pet.
3 years is the recommended amount of time as studies show that the majority of dogs have waning immunity at this time. Some do not, so if you prefer to titre test please just ask us ๐
There is no benefit to titre testing in a dog less than 4 years old - puppies and first boosters need to be covering all viruses to ensure adequate immunity is provided ๐ At 2 and 3 years old they only get leptospirosis vaccines.
Vaccination from 6 weeks old is advised to protect any puppies failing to get protection from mumโs milk. The reason a second vaccine is always given after 10 weeks is to ensure any puppies with antibodies from mumโs milk inhibiting the function of the vaccine are covered. By 10 weeks MDA (maternally derived antibodies) are gone so cannot inhibit the vaccines.
Q: TRUE OR FALSE! I can give my dog bones and chew toys to chew on and that naturally cleans his or her teeth.
A: FALSE! When a dog chews on something hard their teeth do scrape up against the object but there is limited benefit from a teeth cleaning perspective. In fact, we often see broken teeth from chewing on hard toys or bones and that causes pain as well as opening the tooth up to infection. We advise against giving hard bones and toys to your dog to chew. There are some products out on the market that have been scientifically proven to help clean the teeth, but they are not meant to replace daily brushing and regular teeth cleanings. RULE OF THUMB (literally) if you cannot create an indent with your thumbnail into the object that you are giving your dog, said object can lead to broken teeth!
Below is a video of a spaniel eating a bone that has the potential to break or damage teeth!
