Meet Atreyu! Our, very handsome, pet of the month for June 💐

Atreyu is a friendly, 2 year old Ragdoll who lives at home with his lovely mum, who loves him very much 🤍 Atreyu has had a very rough few months, but before we tell you what happened, we wanted to share that he is doing now brilliantly! 🥰

Back in March, Atreyu presented with vomiting and diarrhoea. His owner was growing worried about him so brought him straight to our Cathkin branch. Upon examination, we noticed that he had lost some weight, but seemed bright in the consult room. His owner decided to take him home to monitor.

The next day, Atreyu’s owner reported no improvement, so we advised to bring him straight down because something wasn’t right.

Vet Lucy X-RAY’d him right away, and found dilated areas of intestine, but no sign of any other issues.
We discussed options with his owner, and it was decided perform an emergency exploratory laparotomy

Atreyu had quite a challenging surgery performed by our vets Elena and Lucy, who found a very long piece of thick thread causing the intestines to bunch up together and causing an obstruction. The thread had been trapped around Atreyu's tongue and extended all the way to his large intestine. In order to safely remove this linear foreign body, Atreyu had 7 small incisions in his small intestines.

After a long recovery, we are thrilled to share that Atreyu is doing great!

When we told Atreyu’s lovely owner that he was pet of the month, she had this to say:
“I am so pleased to report that Atreyu has grown from strength to strength after his 2 surgeries earlier in March .
He is back to his normal playful self and continues brightening our days with his gentle, goofy and loving nature.
We cannot thank you all enough for your hard and patient work.
Your team has exceeded our expectations, and delivered their absolute best on every front : you provided a very humane and warm hearted service that got us through a difficult time. The patience of your vet and nursing staff has been examplary, and I can only give more thanks and appreciation for the work that you carry out each day at your very busy practice.
I also appreciate everything you were able to put in place to help with financial matters. Charissa and Adrienne were my first port of call when Atreyu became ill and I am grateful for the kindness and support they both showed in making saving Atreyu physically and financially possible.
As he sat by the window the other night, and turned around to be immortalised in his current beauty, I had a wee thought for all of you. You are a legendary team!
Thank You !!!!
We ❤️you
Atreyu and Sandra”

Our handsome boy Magnus, looking as majestic as ever 😍

Fun fact, sometimes Magnus and his pawrent walks past our Cathkin practice on their walkies and she shows us videos of him trying to cross the road to come in, we love it!

Unfortunately some dogs are scared of coming to the vets, and we totally understand why. But not Magnus. Magnus is our pal 🤍

Meet Smokey, our Staff Pet of the Month 🩷

Smokey is the sookiest cat ever to exist. She belongs to Emily, one of our Registered Veterinay Nurses - and fell into her lap one Saturday afternoon when her parents caved and took her and her sister to look a litter of kittens at the SSPCA centre in Dumbarton. The rest is history!🤍

14 years young, Smokey recently came to work with her mum for a full MOT from our vet, Catriona, to make sure she’s still fit and healthy. A few behavioural changes had been noted at home - struggling to jump on high surfaces, more irritable, inappetant and VERY vocal. We’re pleased to say that other than being diagnosed with arthritis in her back legs, she passed with flying colours. Did you know that over 80% of cats over the age of 10 have arthritis to some degree?😿

Smokey was given a dose of Solensia, which is a once-a-month injection to help with her discomfort. She’s a terror to medicate at home! Welsh are pleased to say she’s doing remarkably well with it, seems much more comfortable and is behaving more like herself.🙌🏼

Love you Smokey!🐈‍⬛🤍

👏 👏 She believed she could, so she did 👏 👏

You’ll probably recognise our amazing receptionist Caitlin. She took on the challenge to run 50k in May to support MS Society UK- a charity that is very close to her heart. She didn’t just achieve her target, she absolutely smashed it out the park (and then some) and has ended the month on an amazing 156km!!! 🧡

This girl just doesn’t stop! Most days Caitlin is up before work, walking the dogs, at the gym or going a run and still, she turns up to work every day with a smile on her face, and we’ve said it before, so you’ll probably already know - quiet days don’t happen at Taylors. Especially on reception.

We’ve attached the link for you all to have a read at her justgiving page and if you wish to, donate.

Caitlin is so grateful for all the support, messages and donations.

Thank you! ❤️

Meet Sally!

Sally is a lovely bouncy 11 year old Springer Spaniel cross. In February Sally came to see us for vomiting and weight loss and her eyes and gums were yellow. She was quickly tested and had elevated liver values. She was hospitalised and a feeding tube was placed so we could feed her a liquid diet. She slowly improved over the course of weeks to months and gained weight and her appetite came back and she slowly became more lively and less yellow. She is now doing well and is an absolute superstar for coming through the impossible! We are so happy to see Sally doing well and back to her normal self!
Well done Sally! ⭐️

🦔 Out at night and I’m feeling alright,
Out in the day, I’m not ok so please don’t delay… 🦔

If you see me and think I need veterinary care, please act quickly so those pesky flies don’t pick on me. Keep me safe and find me a rescue as quick as you can, they’re the ones who can give me a chance.

It was recently Hedgehog Awareness Week, organised by The British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS). We may be a tad late, but we thought we’d still share some info on these amazing little creatures 🤍

Did you know that hedgehogs are nocturnal? So seeing them out in the day goes against their instincts.
When you find a poorly hedgehog, please do not feed them. The best thing you can do is to put them in a box with a towel and a bottle of warm water and phone your nearest rescue.

The rescue centres closest to us are SSPCA or Hessilhead but please refer to google to find your local rescue centre.
You can also phone the BHPS on 01584 890801 or go on their website - they have a list of all the rescues registered with them.
If you have no luck you can go to a local vets. They may know of a local rescue or may be able to help the hog.

Some more info over at the SSPCA:
