We are sure our furry friends would think festive food is delicious, but their tummies might not! A lot of the food we indulge in around Christmas is highly toxic and dangerous to our pets.

Always double check food is safe before giving it to your pet. If they have eaten something they shouldn’t, they can usually be given an injection to induce vomiting, provided it is within four hours of ingestion. Fast action can be enough to avoid toxicity, so if you are concerned about something your pet has eaten, please do give us a call!

When walking your dog in cold weather, limit walk duration, especially for smaller dogs, and watch for shivering or whining, as they can get cold and frostbitten.
You can protect your dog with a coat and booties, by trimming paw fur and always rinsing paws after walks to remove salt or ice.

Gift wrap is dangerous for pets because it can cause intestinal blockages if ingested, leading to serious health issues that may require emergency surgery.

The primary dangers come from wrapping paper, ribbons, and bows, which can also cause choking or internal damage.

Pets should always be supervised around decorations.
If chewed or swallowed, foreign objects can cause damage to the intestines or even a life-threatening obstruction. Cats in particular are often drawn to tinsel; though this can be extremely dangerous if swallowed.

If you are visiting friends or family and staying for any length of time, it’s always wise to find out first whether your dog will be welcome.
Ask if there will be any other dogs or cats there and also whether there will be any small children. Only take your dog if you know you can keep them safe in someone else’s house.

The safest toy options include durable rubber toys, certain rope toys and some stuffed toys with no small, detachable parts. Always choose toys appropriate for your dog's size and chewing style, and supervise them to prevent choking or ingestion of small parts.
