Itā€™s going to be another beautiful day out there! Get out with your pets and enjoy the gorgeous weather before Ma Nature brings back the cold. Remember, the best thing you can do for your pets is spend time with them. More walks and play (kitties like playing too, so get out that cat teaser or laser pointer for a quick session) and less treats! We want lean and happy patients!!

Another dog doing amazing work! Woody the Labrador detects the presence of rats and ferrets, both of which are harmful to puffins on Rathlin Island off the coast of Northern Ireland. His job is to find their droppings so they can be eradicated from the island. Good job Woody!!

Woody the dog switches his detection skills from ferrets to rats in a bid to save Rathlin's birds.

Hard to believe, but Halloween approaches! While itā€™s a fun holiday for us, it can be scary for our pets. All those strangers dressed in weird outfits roaming around, loud noises, sudden surprisesā€” no wonder many pets try to run away from it all. If your pet hates the hubbub, donā€™t force it on them. Give them a nice quiet space to hide out in, and make sure you can keep them away from open doors. Itā€™s way too easy for them to escape with people coming to the door constantly. Make Halloween safe for your pets!! Hereā€™s a few tips from the American Veterinary Medical Association to help.

If you ever want to make a veterinarian cringe, let them see a dog riding loose in the back of a pickup truck or with its head hanging out of the car window. These situations are accidents waiting to happen. Dogs can easily jump out of the truck bed and get injured or killed by the fall or other cars. If theyā€™re leashed, they can be strangled or dragged behind the vehicle. They can jump out of open windows in a flash, and even if they canā€™t, road dust and little pebbles can damage their eyes. Crack the windows to get a little fresh air in the car, but donā€™t risk your pupā€™s health no matter how much they love hanging their heads outside!

Veterinarians recommend that dogs not stick their heads out the window of moving cars because of the risk of jumping out and flying debris.
