A Midwest, St. Louis-based organization to Rescue, Rehab, and Rehome American Eskimo dogs. AER is an all-volunteer association. AER has been operating since 1999.
The work of AER includes fostering, transporting, and networking to save the lives of American Eskimo dogs. There is no physical shelter for this association and foster homes take in homeless dogs until a forever home can be found. Since this association is a “breed-specific rescue association,” AER is able to keep Eskies out of shelters, thus making room for other homeless dogs. The program is fu
nded by donations, adoption fees, and grants. For more information about fostering, adopting, or volunteering, please visit the AER website at www.eskierescuestl.org to complete an application and for more information. Anyone interested in adopting should Email [email protected] or call 314-647-1112. For faster replies, please Email or call. Thank you for visiting American Eskimo Rescue of St. Louis.

Update on Hawk and Conrad (2 of the 7 Arkansas Eskies). These boys are twins, they are so bonded. Thank you, Amy and Scott, for these awesome pictures. Foster Mom Amy reports they love to watch TV! And with being heartworm positive they will need restricted activity for a while. So watching TV will be helpful! Thank you, Amy and Scott, looks like they are getting better every day. And thank you for your double duty. They are precious.

Happy National Dog Day! Bella wishes everyone a wonderful day with their best friends!

Hawk and Conrad, the other two Eskies of the Arkansas (Magnificent) 7! Thank you so much to Amy and Scott for fostering the two boys, Hawk and Conrad. These two are so bonded we didn't want to separate them so Amy and Scott took both! Thank you so much for taking two. Both boys are on medications for giardia and are heartworm positive same as all of the Arkansas 7. Four females went to Houston Eskimo Rescue and they also are heartworm positive. They all have fly bitten ears. These two boys are already looking better! They all had baths and look beautiful. Thank you to everyone who helped with these terrific Arkansas 7!

Famous "Amos," one of the Arkansas 7 is in his foster home with Foster Dad Robert. Amos is coming along and learning to live in a home. He has giardia, coccidia, ear infections, and is heartworm positive. Amos is on the mend and once he has completed his heartworm treatment he can be neutered. And he can't be neutered until after his heartworm treatment. It's a long process but the heartworm treatment will save his life. Thank you to Robert and everyone who has helped Amos! He is really an easy-going Eskie. Thank you to Robert and Boris for taking care of "Famous Amos!"

We lost our sweet Ernie today (8/24/2024). Ernie was rescued from a shelter in Missouri. He had been found roaming the streets. When Ernie came in, he was coughing and after running tests we found out he had a collapsing trachea condition. Sometimes it was hard for him to breathe. Then, he began having neurological symptoms of his head and spine. We did not want Ernie to suffer any longer. Thank you to his Foster Mom, Cyndy, who showed Ernie lots of love and gave him a wonderful home. Sad day for us but we know he's out of pain. Thank you to Dr. Bilyk at Tri-City Animal & Bird Clinic for doing all she could for Mr. Ernie. He will not be forgotten.

Jax Update: Jax has been diagnosed with Fanconi Sydrome. We were waiting for tests results from Dr. Howard at Veterinarian Specialty Services (VSS). The test took several weeks to receive results, and he does have this disease. Jax is only two years old. Here's a link to the syndrome https://cvm.missouri.edu/research/canine-genetic-disease-network/fanconi-syndrome/ Jax will be on medications and supplements the rest of his life and will need blood and urine checks on a regular basis. Thank you to Jax's Foster Parents, Ben and Brandi, for really taking care of Jax. He is having a wonderful time playing with his buddies too. So far he's feeling fine. Jax's next check-ups will be in December. Jax is a great guy! Thank you Brandi and Ben!!

Update on Ernie. Ernie recently had an appointment with a specialist at Veterinary Specialty Services (VSS). When we rescued Ernie, he was coughing quite a bit, and since he came from a shelter, kennel cough was suspected. Ernie was on medication, but the cough never went away. Dr. Graham performed a video x-ray of Ernie’s throat and trachea. His diagnosis is chronic tracheal collapse. It is a progressive disease of the trachea (windpipe) that causes a persistent, harsh, and dry cough, sometimes described as a “goose-honking” cough. Since Ernie has this medical condition, he will remain in long-term foster care with his Foster Mom, Cyndy. Ernie loves her and vice versa. Ernie’s condition will be managed with medications, and he is doing better. Thank you to Cyndy for taking such loving care of Ernie, getting him to and from doctor appointments, and managing his medication routine. It takes time and dedication to take care of these wonderful senior dogs that are rescued with medical issues. You might recall that Ernie was let go by his owners who moved and left him wandering the streets. Neighbors were feeding him until he went to a shelter, and the shelter contacted us to see if we could help. With your donations, we can provide these dogs with medications and give them the life they deserve so they can feel better and have someone love them. Thank you from the bottom of our Hearts for your donations that help so many of these neglected dogs.

Update on Jax: Jax needs a medical foster home. He may have a condition called "Fanconi Syndrome." There are several situations that can cause this syndrome. To read about it here is a link: https://cvm.missouri.edu/research/canine-genetic-disease-network/fanconi-syndrome/ -- Jax had multiple blood tests and urine tests but the condition has not changed (he has a high sugar level in his urine, but normal sugar level in his bloodwork). He will need to see a specialist for further testing. Jax is two years old and about 25 pounds. A medical foster home means that the foster may need to help with continued vet visits. Jax will need to be monitored for any changes too, such as drinking more, low energy, and just not feeling well. As of now, he is doing great and has good energy. If you are interested in helping Jax, please call 314-647-1112 or [email protected] -- Jax has had a lot of interest, but we need to get a confirmed diagnosis. All medical bills will be covered by the rescue while he is fostered. A fenced yard would be necessary. Thank you for your help!

Welcome Zappa! This is the little guy from Columbia, MO. He is about 17 pounds and around 6-7 years old. Zappa was found as a stray. Zappa is shy/timid and slow to get used to new people. He’s just scared but no aggression. He is learning to walk on a leash. Someone with patience will need to adopt this boy and be careful with him until he gets to know his people and his situation. A fenced yard will be needed. He is very, very sweet and will learn quickly. He is a curious little guy too. If you are interested in adopting this boy, please call 314-647-1112, email [email protected] or submit an application at www.eskierescuestl.org – thank you!

Ernie had another vet visit yesterday, and he has a medical issue we are still working on. We're treating him with medications, and he could be older than we originally thought. He is a happy boy. Here he is back at his pool side SPA (after his vet visit) with his Foster Mom Cyndy! Thank you, Cyndy, for taking care of this special guy! Cyndy and Ernie are best of buddies! He's living the life after being evicted from his past home and roaming the streets!

This is a new picture of Ernie. He is a senior who came to our rescue and he has had some major health problems going on that we're still working on. Thank you, Cyndy, for taking care of this very cute Ernie! He is doing better and loves his new home!

Update on Birdie’s Puppies. As of July 9, 2023, puppies will be nine weeks old. They are all adopted, except for one (Dovey—more on her later). The puppies will receive their second round of puppy vaccinations on July 13 (after which time they will begin to go home). We still need to be careful with them until after their third round of puppy vaccinations which will be August 2. And they will be neutered/spayed around 5 or 6 months. Thank you to everyone for helping financially with Mamma Birdie and puppy expenses. Also thank you to Tri-City Animal & Bird Clinic for providing excellent medical care. And a huge thank you to Foster Mom and Dad, Annamaria and Eric, as they have raised some beautiful puppies. We thank them and wouldn’t know what we would have done without them. Thank you, Everyone, for helping with Birdie and her puppies. (PS Some lovely barking from Halley and North Starr, who have been gracious doggie hosts for Birdie and Puppies).
This video show how Marshall circles. We are hoping to do an MRI to learn more information about this condition.
Phlox says: "Good Morning (after my morning run)!" I am available for adoption! See my information below.
Phlox Running!
Eskie Friends, “Phlox,” is in need of a foster home or adopter. She is a young, active female American Eskimo. Phlox has had some bad luck in her days. Last year, she was adopted, and returned, by three different families. We believe she was adopted to the wrong type of homes (she originally came from a shelter and then to American Eskimo Rescue). Phlox is very high energy as you can see in the attached video. So a fenced yard and lots of exercise is a must. She loves to run. Phlox, as we know now, is not good with small children, as she will jump up on them and knock them down. She doesn’t know any better yet. And she does not like cats. Phlox is small, about 15 pounds. She would be best as an only dog but there’s a possibility she could get along with one other dog, as long as there is a slow introduction and supervision. We know this is not an impossible feat. Phlox is just a challenge because she is young; she needs training, attention, and TLC! She wants a family that wants her and can spend time with her. This is not a dog that can be put out in the backyard or sent to fend on her own. Phlox needs attention, and that is what we Eskie Owners love about this breed. If you are interested in helping Phlox, please call 314-647-1112 or Email [email protected] – take a chance. We will help with training too. Thank you very much.
American Eskimo Rescue of St. Louis (AERSTL) is a 501(c)(3) association and has been in existence since 1999. We rescue American Eskimo dogs in the Midwest, including Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky, and other states as needed. The work of AERSTL includes fostering, transporting, and networking to save the lives of American Eskimo dogs. AER is an all-volunteer association. There are no paid positions. Volunteers work full-time jobs and rescue in their spare time for the benefit of helpless and homeless Eskies. There is no physical shelter for this association and foster homes take in “Reskies” until a forever home can be found. Since this association is a “breed-specific rescue association,” AER is able to keep Eskies out of shelters, thus making room for other homeless dogs. The program is funded by donations, adoption fees, and grants. Our adoption fee is $245 for adults; $285 for puppies, although we do not see many puppies in rescue. Most recently, we have seen many senior dogs needing help and rescue so please consider a senior Eskie. They are wonderful dogs!
For more nformation about fostering, adopting, or volunteering, please visit the AER website at http://www.eskierescuestl.org to complete an application and for more information. If you would like to help, please consider fostering as that is our biggest need. If we don’t have foster homes, we cannot save them. Anyone interested in adopting should visit our website or Email [email protected] or call 314-647-1112. Thank you.
For faster replies, please Email or call. Thank you for visiting American Eskimo Rescue of St. Louis.
