It's that time of year when firework celebrations are at the top of very pet parents' minds. It's still June but we all know that those firework BOOMS and POPS can start blasting off a few days before July 4th and afterwards.

Josie is right.

It's icy out there!

The Downtown Vancouver WellHaven will be closed on January 17th, 2024. Due to the ice storm and its possible risk to our staff and pet families, we are asking everyone to stay home today.  We appreciate your patience and understanding. Everyone is afraid of something.

And that's okay.

See that cup on the floor? Guess what's under it.

A spider!

Well, a few of our team members are afraid of spiders.
Instead of running away or smashing it, we talked to each other and shared our spider fears.

Long story short, Dr. Hashimoto saved the spider & the day!
( Cue superhero music)

Our pets are just like us. They have fears too.

Visiting the Vet may not always be your pet's favorite thing to do. Who could blame them?

Let's face it.
Vet visits typically mean weigh-ins, pokes, and...

( cue ominous music...)

As a team, we do our best to alleviate the stress and fear that your pet might feel during their appointment.

Or you can call me Josie, for short.
I'm a petite sized Redbone C**nhound Bloodhound from Texas. I'm guessing I'm 7 or 8 yrs old, but hey... age is just a number. I don't like to over exert myself, so when my my mom & I run or walk, I like to come to a full sudden stop in front of her & enjoy every single blade of grass. She loves it when I do this.
My fav things are food & the sofa.  Some people call me stubborn.  I think of myself as being very dedicated to my beliefs.
I'm a Texan girl. I think I was dropped  off at a shelter because I have anxiety & the world scares me alot. Luckily, I found a family who understands me.  They tell me it's ok to be scared or anxious. They know pets can't speak for themselves & all we need are patience, love and understanding. Before I met my mom, I knew I had big paw prints to fill from her first Hound, Rusty.. I think it's safe to say that I filled the cracks in her heart!
I smell food. Gotta go!

  Let's get real.
I'm not a people person, but I'm smart, so I got my PR person to tell you about me. I'm a 3 yr old cockatiel who loves to read. Some might call me mean because I like to hiss at people. Maybe if  they gave treats, I'd warm up to them.  Cynthia, is my grandmom. She keeps trying to teach me how to whistle, " Eye of the Tiger. " I find her attempts amusing, & I'll play along because she gives me treats. My favorite YouTuber is Markiplier.

Oh!! Our mom, Cynthia,  is a Practice Manager.  She can't parallel park, cook, or open cereal boxes very well. Luckily,  she doesn't need to do that at work. She loves to write, loves a good story & believes everyone has a good story to tell.

Well Hello.

Imagine meeting you here.

My name is Marble.

I'm a 2 year old torti cat who was found and rescued by my mom, Amber. I was found on the streets in San Francisco as a kitten. My favorite pastime is running around the house and looking out the window. I love getting chin scratches and brushed! My favorite part of the day is when my humans come home so I can sit on their laps.

My mom Amber is a Veterinary Assistant. Each morning, she gives my chin a rub and a kiss. Afterwards she sets off to help other cats and dogs stay happy and healthy.
Amber loves seeing all her patients wag their tails, do happy paw dances and she loves listening to their purrs.

She especially LOVES the floofy ones...because they're just so... FLOOFY!

I gotta go. My spot on the sofa is waiting for me.

Today, our Lead Veterinary Assistant, Brandon, would like to introduce you to his family.

"Roscoe is our 12 year old husky mix. Didn't know he was the world best dog until he turned six. "

"Winnie, aka Beans, is a 2 year old mini Aussie. She's a complete terrorist but we love her to pieces."

"Finley, our orange lean kitten turns 5 this year and chose me to be his
" hooman" .

While Brandon wasn't around, our team asked Roscoe, Winnie, and Finley about Brandon. Here's what they had to say,

Hi Everyone,

We've got important things to talk about.

July 4th is just around the corner, and now is the time to get ready for it. July 4th can be a fun holiday for humans but a scary one for our pets.

Our team has put together a few ideas to help the holiday go smoother for you and your pet.

1) More pets get lost around this holiday than any other day of the year. Make sure your pet has current ID tags and a microchip with up-to-date contact information. If they go missing, having current ID information will make it easier to be reunited with their family.

2) Designate a “safe space” in the home for your pets to retreat during the fireworks. Keep their safe place cozy with their favorite blanket, fluffy toy, water, and food.

3) Play calm music at a low volume to block out some of the outside noise. We've heard of some pets loving the soothing sounds of nature or calm vibes of Pink Floyd.

4) Exercise and walk your dog before the fireworks start. This'll help get their night time zoomies out of their system and lessen the chance of having any "accidents" in the house.

5) Bring your pets inside.

6) Plan ahead. If your pet is in need of anti anxiety medication, call us to call to schedule an appointment.

Together, we can help make this a less scarier holiday for your pet.

This is Momo. He’s 4 years old. His favorite place — when he’s not outside in the catio — is over the heating vent in the floor to keep his belly warm. He is best friends with Puma.

Puma is 3 years old and absolutely loves his catio, even in the snow.

Momo and Puma's mom, is Dr. Dauphin, Principal Doctor. In her spare time, she likes to bake and cook and try out new recipes on her unsuspecting coworkers. She is also proud to be a Bridge Life Master.

It's been a few days since our team started introducing you to their family.

Today Chloe would like to say ,
It's my turn to say HI! & while I'm here...
Let me tell you about me!

I love playing dress up & fetching tennis balls.
Miss me with those frisbee things, I mean, who wants to chase a flat piece of plastic? Snuggling is my favorite activity of all. There is no such thing as personal space in my world. My biggest pet peeve is my mom won't let me eat anything I want because of some made up thing called "allergies".
My favorite color is lamb. I'm assuming that's what a color is...
And I LUV going & seeing all of my friends at WellHaven!
I need to go snuggle with my mom now. I'm going to pass you onto Tonk.

Hi, I'm Tonk.

I actually had a different name when mom first adopted me, but then she realized how poorly that name fit me, & I became "Tonk" cause I just tonk & bulldoze through life. I was brought into the hospital she worked at when I was only 4 weeks old. No one knows what happened to my kitty mom or siblings. I was very scared the first night mom took me home & wouldn't really go near her. But now, she feeds me, so I let her live with me.

I love playing fetch, opening drawers, & going on adventures with my sister! I keep mom on her toes but when I'm ready for a nap, she is my favorite spot. When I was a baby she would snuggle me up on her shoulder, & that's still my favorite place to sleep. Mom can't have any plants in the house, because I find them tasty. As well as popcorn, apples, avocado, oranges, carrots, peas, chicken, oysters, lobster, & really, any type of human food.
I request snacks & gift baskets from admirers, I'm sure I will have many."

Now that you know about us. We want you to know about our mom, Jess. Our mom is a Licensed Technician. Some people even call her their " Fairy GodMother" because she magically fixes things, & knows the answers to the toughest questions.
She has a way of making us & all other dogs and cats feel safe.

If you need a blanket in your kennel, our mom will get it for you & she puts in the dryer so it's nice & warm for you!

Ready for a catnap?

Well, so is Gizmo.

If you asked her, she'd tell you that she doesn't really have much about herself to share... she's likes to sleep and eat and sleep again and sometimes groom her sister, Hashbrown.

Hashbrown mostly likes to eat everything but actual edible food, have crazy zoomies in the middle of the night, bully her sister, and being just cuddly enough to make her mom forget how troublesome Gizmo is.

Speaking of moms, Gizmo and Hashbrown would like to tell you about their mom. Savannah. Our mom likes to spend her free time taking us on adventures or staying home and letting us cuddle her while she draws or plays video games.

One last thing about our mom! Savannah is a Veterinary Assistant. She spends her days helping other cats and dogs stay healthy. Best of all, she holds their paws when they might be scared or aren't feeling well.

We have to go now. It's time for us to get cozy and get settled in for our nap!

Today we're meeting...

Olive.
She is a 1 year old coonhound mix & she acts just like it! She loves to tug, dig in the yard, chest rubs, talks with her paws, & howls in the morning when she's ready for her humans to wake up to play with her. She doesn't have a lazy bone in her body & never stops moving.

River is a chocolate labradoodle who never got his curls. He's 8 yrs old & loves his mom more than anything else, & has been her right hand since he was a pup. He's happy to fetch a ball, swim in the lake, chase squirrels, but is just as happy to snuggle up on the couch with some snacks - as long as his mom is close by.

Bixby Jones is a 4 year old golden retriever who is just happy to be alive. He loves kids, giving them all of the kisses and wishes he could ride in strollers with them. His favorite thing to do is chase a ball, show you the ball, run with a ball, swim after a ball, or just about anything else you could think of that he could include a ball in. He'll greet you with a toy anytime you walk into a room &will make sure you never forget he loves you.

Pretzel is the Sheriff around our house - although he's not very good at it. He makes sure the meal laws are followed down to the minute and will punish accordingly for any negligence against meal times. He's recently been told he needs a diet - and believes as a society, any body shaming should be terms for jail time.

Your phone is not upside down.

Hi! I’m Toothless (I do have all my teeth), I am a 1 year old domestic short hair. I was adopted by my Mom, who got me from a box on the street. In my free time I love to make biscuits, cuddle, zoom around the house and sun bathe.

(Ok...now I get to tell you all about my Mom!)

My mom, Josie is a Veterinary Assistant. She started working in the veterinary field in April 2021 but has always been interested in the veterinary field since she was a kid. She loves helping animals in need & and providing good care. During her free time, she enjoys watching
k dramas, playing video games & going out for dim sum.

I think she's the best and I'm a really smart cat. Just ask my Mom!
