Fireworks can cause your pets to feel anxious and uncertain, which may lead them to seek shelter away from their owners. Here are some tips to help keep your pets calm and safe during fireworks on the
Fourth of July:
Keep your pets inside
Some recommend keeping your pets inside during fireworks displays.
Create a safe area
If you do take your pets outside, create a safe area for them away from the fireworks.
Exercise your dogs
Take your dogs for a long walk or to the dog park before the fireworks to help relieve any restless energy.
Block out the noise
Try turning on the radio or television, or using a white noise machine, to drown out some of the fireworks noises.
Comfort your pets
It's okay to provide comfort during this time, but avoid hugging your dog, as they might interpret it as a restriction. Instead, offer your pet a comforting presence without restraining them.
Identify your pet
Make sure your pet has some type of identification with contact information on them, such as a microchip or pet tags. If you do take your dog to the fireworks, keep them on a leash and far away from where the fireworks are being set off.
Medication
If your pet is overstimulated by fireworks, please reach out to us to discuss medication options.
