Our 20-year celebrations in full swing today!
A massive thank you to our founder Dr David Tabrett for his unwavering leadership, expertise and incredible vision that has seen us through two decades and beyond.
There was laughter, there was cake and naturally - an appearance from Robbie Williams (if you know, you know!).

🎉 HAPPY NATIONAL RECEPTIONIST DAY! 🎉
We are incredibly lucky to have 14 amazing humans dedicated to support our AREC clinical team.
At AREC, our Customer Service Representatives are our first responders. They are the calm voice you hear when your pet is in crisis and the reassuring face you see when you walk through the doors of AREC.
They are so much more than administration; they are a vital link between our clinical team, pet owners, and our larger local veterinary community.
Here's to all the amazing CSRs at AREC and receptionists everywhere. Your kindness, professionalism, and commitment make a world of difference every day. 🌟

We think climate action is kind of a big deal… Vets for Climate Action is empowering Vet Teams to take the lead on environmental sustainability and help bring a halt to climate change. AREC is donating $1 from every paid consult and $1 from every team member recognition (via our internal team recognition program) to Vets from Climate Action. The Vets for Climate Action objectives are for the Veterinary profession and animal care community to: 👉 Reduce our emissions as much as possible 👉Exercise our democratic power for climate action 👉 Inspire the people we engage with to advocate for and take climate action. Vets for Climate Action are seeking financial support from the veterinary community over the next 12 months to ensure they can continue to operate. AREC will be donating to to VFCA as we feel they are doing a fantastic job at highlighting climate issues and assisting the veterinary community to be part of the solution in protecting our climate, which protects the animals we care for. #vetsforclimateaction #vfca #arecvet
That’s not coffee 😳🕷️ This cheeky Funnel-web spider was found at Adamstown NSW during a house renovation. Please be mindful that they are about! The Animal Referral & Emergency Centre has now become an official drop off point for the Spider Anti-Venom Program for The Reptile Park. Being a 24/7 facility, we are a convenient drop off point, however, there are some important points to note for anyone considering dropping a spider off to us: We are only a drop off point and do not provide any spider related advice. We therefore do not conduct any identifications. We will only accept spiders in a closed container that can be left with the spider. We will not decant or move a spider from one container to another. When you have a spider to drop to us, the process is as follows: 1. Please ring the bell at the front door and advise the staff member you have a spider to drop. 2. The AREC staff member will ask you to complete a brief form with your name, contact details and location spider was found. 3. The AREC staff member will safely store the spider on site until the Reptile Park collect. Please be careful when collecting 😅#reptilepark #funnelweb #spider #antivenom #arecvet #specialistvet #emergencyvet #vet #vetnurse #animalattendant #lakemacquarie #huntervalley #newcastlensw #adamstown #australia #straya

We had a visit from a pair of noisy chicks yesterday. Can you guess what species they are? Hint: They usually sit in an old gym tree 😜

Due to the high demand for our services and our limited cage space over this long weekend, we are only able to accept strays who are in need of emergency assistance and cannot wait until Tuesday for Veterinary care.
Uninjured stray animals are the responsibility of your local council on behalf of the public.

Every day is the day to ask "R U OK?"
Our staff were spoiled with some conversation starter cupcakes this morning and a few cuddles from our official R U OK feline mascot Dougal.
Are you ok? What's going on in your world? How are you doing?

Happy 10 year work-versary Nadine!
Literally countless animals have benefited from Nadine’s thorough approach to patient care over these years.
But also the many vet nurses who have learnt from her wealth of knowledge!
Of course we celebrated with a very decadent cake - which somehow disappeared before we managed a group photo! 🤷♀️😉🍰😋
📣 We want to give you a heads up that parking at AREC may be a little challenging this long weekend. Due to it being a peak period for us AND with multiple football games at McDonald Jones Stadium on Easter Sunday…we expect it will be busy on the roads in Broadmeadow! We kindly ask for your patience and understanding as our staff guide you on parking.
📍Our location at 4 Lang Road, Broadmeadow has 3 x emergency drop off/pick-up bays directly in front of the hospital entrance (see photo!)
☎️ Please phone ahead so we can best prepare for your arrival, which may mean we clear and reserve a car space for you to safely enter with your pet.
🏥 Our emergency drop-off bays are reserved for critical patients, so we'll likely ask you to move your car after safely dropping off your pet inside the hospital.
Thank you for your cooperation and trusting us with your fur babies care ❤️
Pringles came to us on a busy Monday night after being stuck in a door hinge!
This beautiful python was swiftly rescued by Dr Hannah and AREC nurses. Pringles escaped unharmed and went home to lovely owners to enjoy the rest of the night.
Any other snake families out there with interesting tales of tricky situations?
