Calling all future Veterinary Technicians! 📣

We’ve heard your feedback that the upfront cost of the VTNE can be a barrier for Associates to enroll for VTNE testing. Beginning today, Associates who are preparing to take the VTNE will be able to use a voucher code to pay for the exam up front. You no longer need to wait for a reimbursement to cover the cost of the exam!

We are excited to be able to offer this new benefit in addition to our already established partnership with VetTechPrep and ZUKU review which optimize VTNE preparation for Associates and allow for continuous improvement and development of our medical teams.

If you’re getting ready to take the VTNE and want to learn more, check out Fetch for the information to sign up!

Nothing will stop Banfield Associates from building the – not even a global software outage. 💪

Throughout that difficult situation, we all remained to continue to see the pets that needed to be seen. And once things were back to normal, you’d think a little “me time” would be in order … but not for our Banfield Associates.

In the week after the outage, Associates focused on doing good in their communities at more than 10 Banfield Gives Back events across the country. 🧡

As Jeff Davis, Field Director for the San Diego market and beach cleanup volunteer said, “This was just a great way for us to come together after a long couple of days and make a difference.”

Thank you to our community champions for organizing and our Associates who made time to volunteer at events including a:

➡️ Community microchip event in San Antonio, TX
➡️ Beach cleanup in Oceanside, CA
➡️ Flood cleanup at a Shelter in St. Louis, MO
➡️ Free clinic funded by our charitable arm Banfield Foundationrtnership with Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) in Baltimore, MD
➡️ Habitat for Humanity event in Charlotte, NC
➡️ Operation Kindness event in Dallas, TX
➡️ Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Keystone Conference in Atlanta, GA
➡️ Stand Down clinic with the DRG and Department of Veterans Affairs in Martinez, CA
➡️ Activity to support a local food bank in Pennsauken, NJ
➡️ Banfield Pet Academy presentation at a preschool in Norwalk, CT (stay tuned for more!)

In what is already such a caring profession, Banfield Associates’ commitment to giving back really stands out and makes us all proud! 👏👏👏

07/31/2024

Banfield Gives Back took on the Boys & Girls Clubs Of America 2024 National Keystone Conference in Atlanta, GA! 🧡 We brought a team of Associates to the College & Career Expo to interact with hundreds of teens from across the country about careers in veterinary medicine and the possibilities their futures hold. ✨

Who stole the spotlight, though? The Blue Tongued Skink named Tater Tot we brought with us. 🦎 There were tons of great conversations, dancing, and inspiring moments of connection. BIG thanks to our community champion Ashli Macko for organizing and Associates Courtney Dobson, Joleene Hardy, Dr. April Allen, and Dr. Tameka Tolliver for attending, and even our intern Kaitlyn got in on the action to share her experience. 👏

We always enjoy getting a chance to give back to our communities and helping to set up the next generation of veterinary professionals for success in their careers through this incredible event and our national partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. 🩺

Last week, Banfield hosted its first ever Student Ambassador Academy here at our headquarters in Vancouver, WA!🧡👏🧡

We flew in 25 Student Ambassadors from across the world (!!) to engage with our purpose up close, build their network, hone their skills for their career journeys, and learn from Associates that help us make an impact daily.

Honestly, it was giving ✨Summer Camp Vibes✨ and who doesn’t love that??🏕️

Even though Banfield HQ is feeling a little empty this week without our new friends, we're looking forward to inviting our ambassadors back next year to do it all again! Check out the Banfield website to learn more about being a student ambassador if you or someone you know might be interested in joining this amazing program.

Banfield’s computer and phone systems have been temporarily impacted by a third-party software outage. We appreciate your patience as we are working to find a solution. In the meantime, Associates can reach out to their Field Leaders with any questions.

Hear from Hayley Frost, Practice Manager for Josie Oaks in Carrollton, TX, about her amazing experience with NextVet interns and how fulfilling it is to help inspire the next generation of veterinary professionals. 🩺

You may remember their team formed such a bond with NextVet alum from last year, Alessia, that they all attended her high-school graduation. It’s no wonder then that Alessia decided to return as a PCA during her summer break from Harvard. And that Josie Oaks was eager to welcome a new NextVet intern this year, Sara.🧡

Show this team some love for their incredible work! 👏👏👏

Drumroll, please....

🌟 We’re excited to celebrate the winners of our first-ever Patient Safety All-Stars Contest! 🌟

Out of over 30 impressive submissions from teams improving patient safety processes, these six teams stood out:

🏆 Overall Winner! Banfield N. Fort Worth () developed the P.A.W.S. acronym to ensure accurate prescribed medications. Check out your Q3 pet health spotlight kit for your own P.A.W.S. for medication safety to use in your hospital!

🏆 Banfield The Orchards () transformed their culture of safety to celebrate each other for catching safety events and talking through solutions.

🏆 Banfield Eden Prairie started a color-coding system to easily keep track of medication expiration dates and prevent outdated ones from going home with patients.

🏆 Banfield Williamsburg () prioritized daily huddles to make sure their most important tool – open communication – stays on track during busy days and they know how to support each other to prevent mistakes. Standardizing scheduling efficiencies helps, too!

🏆 Banfield Dayton Centerville created a surgical exit slip to easily see what his patient needs post-surgery and keep track of what’s been done, especially to document the doctor’s exit exam.

🏆 Banfield Cary Stonebridge () recently treated two similar looking dogs and that inspired a process to prevent misidentification – now, CSCs ask owners to confirm the name on the ID tag and put it on their pet, since they know them best!

Thank you to all the teams who took the time to share their safety improvements! 🫶 We love seeing the ingenuity, collaboration, and commitment to quality that all our teams bring to pets every day – and best of all, sharing our ideas means we can learn from each other. ✅️ Check Viva Engage all week for more details on these winning processes, so you can try them in your own hospital.

Quality Week is here, Banfield – which means it’s time to celebrate all your hard work! 👏

Every year during Quality Week we recognize how YOUR commitment to quality preventive veterinary care has impacted so many people and pets, especially when it comes to:

🐶🐱Increasing anesthesia safety during procedures
💖Reducing heartworm prevalence in our patients
🎯Learning to minimize risks and maximize the best possible care (stay tuned all week to celebrate the winners of our first-ever Patient Safety All-Stars Contest🏅for their creative solutions!)

Our dedication to quality at Banfield means we are always listening and looking for opportunities to improve and foster our culture of safety, wellbeing and belonging. We’re excited to launch our first-ever Culture of Safety survey to hear from all Associates what’s most important to meet the needs of our clients, their pets, AND each other. 👉 Find the link on Fetch and Viva Engage to add your voice this month. 📣

👀 In the meantime, look for your pet health spotlight kit arriving in hospitals with extra tools to help you navigate dermatologic conditions in pets, a common occurrence in the summer and our focus for this Quality Week. And take time to celebrate! 🎉 Show us how your team embraces Quality and Safety and make sure to tag us so we can celebrate you, too.

Introducing Banfield’s 2024 MAP Ambassadors ✈️

The Mars Ambassador Program (MAP) is a signature Mars volunteer program that pays Associates to travel to amazing destinations, both in the US and abroad, to give back to the community.🌎🙌

Huge congratulations to the 14 Banfield Associates selected for this year’s assignments! Our charitable arm, the Foundation, is co-hosting and funding assignments in Arizona, Hawaii and – new this year – Saipan. We also have Associates headed to Ghana and India 🧡🧡

We can’t wait to share details and photos from their trips later this year. Let’s give a big congrats to all the Ambassadors. You make us proud!👏

06/19/2024

Today we celebrate Juneteenth National Independence Day, and did you know? This day marks June 19th, 1865 – over two years after President Lincoln declared all enslaved persons free – when Major General Gordon Granger and Union Army troops marched to Galveston, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation and finally free the last enslaved Black Americans in Texas. This day has since been a time for celebrating and gathering with family and friends.

Juneteenth is a fitting time to honor the contributions of all the Black leaders who dedicated their lives to Black liberation and equality. In this spirit of celebration and reflection, Banfield’s POWER and PRIDE Diversity Resource Groups have collaborated to honor Juneteenth and celebrate Marsha P. Johnson, a trailblazer in the fight for Black LGBTQIA+ rights. Marsha was a leading activist in the Stonewall riots of June 1969, the pivotal event that ignited the modern LGBTQIA+ rights movement and is remembered with Pride Month. Her courage and advocacy have left an enduring legacy, reminding us of the importance of intersectionality in our ongoing work to further Equity, Inclusion and Diversity.

As well, we celebrate Opal Lee, “known as the grandmother of Juneteeth,” for her advocacy to make this a federally recognized holiday, which finally happened in 2021. Now at 97-years-old, she is having a homecoming this month – she has received keys to a new home rebuilt on the same site where a racist mob destroyed her family’s house on Juneteenth 80 years ago.

Today, let us remember and celebrate the freedom and resilience of our ancestors while also honoring the impactful contributions of individuals like Marsha P. Johnson and Opal Lee, who sacrificed so much in their fight for the liberation of all marginalized communities. By sharing their stories and histories, we foster a deeper understanding and respect among each other.

Last weekend, our POWER DRG was in full force at the 4th Annual National Association of Black Veterinarians (NABV) Conference in New Orleans! This has become one of our favorite partnerships and events, connecting with veterinary students and celebrating all Banfield is doing to increase opportunity and access to veterinary careers for BIPOC professionals now and in the future.

Thanks to POWER, our own Chief Medical Officer Dr. .h_banfiled headlined a talk with MVH Chief Medical Officer Dr. about the path to CMO and how we must increase representation in veterinary leadership roles. Our POWER co-leads Dr. and Dr. .byrd also spoke on a panel about how Banfield leads Equity, Inclusion & Diversity work by empowering our Associate-led DRGs.

NABV’s goal is one we share at Banfield – to advocate for, support, and cultivate a more inclusive and diverse veterinary profession – which is why we sponsor NABV all year round to help remove barriers and increase opportunities in veterinary medicine for Black students. Since joining the Conference in 2021, we’ve connected with many students who join our programs and update us year after year – and we have the opportunity to sponsor conference attendance for members of our POWER DRG!

Thank you to our Associates who represented Banfield with each of your inspiring career paths (tagged in photos)! If this sounds like something you’d like to attend, join POWER on their Viva Engage community and get involved in their leadership council. Our work to increase diversity in the veterinary profession – starting with students – is powered by YOU!

Banfield’s national partnership with — started in 2021 — is going strong! This is thanks to Associates who make the time to visit Clubs, sharing with and encouraging their members. This includes awesome ACOS Dr. LaToiya Templeton, who brings her passion for diversifying veterinary medicine to every Club she visits.

Most recently, Dr. Templeton met with some 30 students at , reviewing radiographs and what a day in the life of a veterinarian is like. She was joined by Zephyr, a Bucovina Shepherd, for hands-on fun.

Last year, Dr. Templeton had a vision to hold an event to inspire young people. Thanks to her commitment, our Chief Operating Officer, , and other leaders met with over 50 students from Boys & Girls Clubs and the community, hoping to encourage and inspire them along their path. Jeff gave Dr. Templeton a shoutout on stage from NFL for leading this event and is himself a regular visitor to Clubs around the country.

If you want to help inspire the next generation, reach out to [email protected].

P.S. Dr. Templeton and her team at our Garner, NV hospital will be hosting one of our interns this summer. Stay tuned next week to meet this year’s class of NextVets!

Brides of Banfield!👰🏻‍♀️🤍

Congratulations to Practice Manager Krista Droegemueller, who married her sweetheart Reid in Kansas City last weekend!

Krista’s maid-of-honor was fellow PM Addison Herd and her mentor, Kimberli Roquemore from Banfield Operations, served as a bridesmaid. In fact, Krista was surrounded by Banfield Associates from 4(!!!) different hospital teams from across the Kansas City market at the beautiful ceremony and reception.

As Kimberli shared, “I was so amazed at how many Banfield peeps were there! It was so neat to see how close and supportive everyone is outside of the walls of work. Truly a Banfield family!”

Summer wedding season is upon us and we’d love to share in your big day! Send us your photos and videos by tagging !

Today is National Asian & Pacific Islander HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. HIV prevention is a critical health issue. During , our and DRGs teamed up to highlight the intersectionality of this issue and the importance of ending the stigma and discrimination that disproportionately affects the health of the API
Community.

Here are some facts from the National Institutes of Health (hivinfo.nih.gov):

• API communities are the fastest growing minority group in the U.S., but rates of HIV testing are lower than the general population.
• HIV-related stigma is the primary barrier to HIV prevention, testing, and treatment in API communities.
• Culturally competent providers and public health education are needed to engage and educate API communities to make a difference.

At Banfield, we value and support the health of our Associates and believe there is no place for stigma or discrimination when it comes to our own health care – as well as the care that pets receive. Ensuring that we each feel safe to seek support is central to our culture of wellbeing and belonging.

We can all help by talking about and normalizing HIV testing and prevention options as a standard health care practice. In fact, there are 12 National HIV Awareness Days that happen all year long, providing even more opportunities to learn and talk about how this health issue affects people in different communities.

Our and DRGs are always great resources for learning about and discussing important topics like these in our Equity, Inclusion & Diversity journey – especially related to culturally competent care for pets and humans both. Visit them on Viva Engage for a link to more information about this day, HIV insurance benefits available to Associates, and for more educational moments throughout the year.
